Our mission is to provide students with a rigorous and systematic education to effectively respond to challenges facing sustainable animal production; and become a leading force in the research of biotechnology and management of domestic animals to benefit society. The Department provides undergraduate programmes and offers opportunities for students to work in our animal farms and laboratories, conduct research, and participate in internships. We study production efficiency, physiology, nutrition, processing of animal products, animal welfare, waste management of dairy cattle, sheep, pig and poultry. Our programme not only solves animal science problems but also secures food safety and sustainable animal production.

Program Objectives

  • Our BSc Programme in Animal Science and Technology seeks to:

    • Provide technical expertise through a focus on basic and core foundation sciences and applied animal science courses, with emphasis on chemistry, biochemistry, cellular biology, physiology and nutrition as well as integration of science and technology courses targeting the applications of feeding and nutrition, reproductive, production and animal biotechnologies to enhance the productivity of the livestock industry;
    • Train skilled graduates who will be able to apply modern technology to breed and rear animals including fish and other aquatic species at commercial scale, participate in marine fishing and processing, preserve and market fish in large scale for human consumption and other purposes.
    • Train potential animal scientists, equipping them with knowledge and ability to competently work in all areas of the rapidly expanding animal industry.
