Rev. Professor Peter Takov is a Catholic priest and Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Cameroon (CATUC), Bamenda, where he also serves in senior academic administration as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics. He obtained his doctorate in Philosophy in 2009 from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, with specialization in ethics and contemporary philosophical thought. His research focuses on environmental ethics, technoscience and modernity, bioethics, African philosophy, and the interface between theology and philosophy, with a particular interest in questions of ecological responsibility and human flourishing in a technological age. Professor Takov has published widely in international and regional journals and edited volumes, including work on African environmental ethics, Hans Jonas’s ethics of responsibility, and the metaphysical and cultural challenges of modern technoscientific civilisation. He is co-editor of the volume Philosophy in Culture: A Cross-Cultural Perspective, and contributes regularly to scholarly debates on African philosophy and religious thought. Administratively, Rev. Professor Takov has extensive experience in curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic governance at CATUC, where he has been instrumental in strengthening programmes in philosophy, ethics, and the environmental humanities. He also mentors postgraduate students and early-career academics, fostering interdisciplinary engagement between philosophy, the social sciences, and health and environmental studies.
REV. PROF. PETER TAKOV intends for this event to facilitate scholarly reflection on the interplay between environmental philosophy and technological advancement in contemporary society. It shall provide an avenue for critical engagement, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of sustainable perspectives on the human – nature relationship.
