The faculty currently runs 3 degree programs aimed at training independent and critical thinkers and developing students’ ethical and Christian values that will transform them into more productive and fulfilled people. We place a premium on both operational and pure research in various fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences with special reference to Cameroon and Africa.

DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY

Mission Statement

In the spirit of Edward B. Tylor (1870) and following in the tradition of anthropology’s holistic study of humans, the mission of this department is to teach and use the discipline as a tool or a mechanism that assists in the development of communities, taking into account their contemporary sensitivities and aspirations.

  1. Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Anthropology (PhD)
  2. Master of Science Degree (MSc)
  3. Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology (PhD)

Entry Requirements

  1. To qualify for admission into the Department of Anthropology, candidates must fulfill the minimum entry requirements set by the university. These include a minimum of five G.C.E. O/L papers including a pass in the English Language as well as the G. C.E. A/L in at least two subjects in the Arts or Sciences.

DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

There are mounting environmental challenges that need to be addressed such as global warming and climate change, conflict over natural resources, refugee crisis, natural disasters, agriculture and food security issues, water crisis and sustainable development imperatives

DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy instils in the students a disinterested search for the truth in the tradition of the “wise person” of Classical and Christian Philosophy. It is a philosophical truth rooted firmly in the philosophy of being, elaborated in its historical, practical and speculative perspectives and perceived as the last bastion against relativism in all its contemporary forms. Philosophy also enables the student to overcome narrow-mindedness by contemplating the whole of the universe impartially. It provides students with the ability to critically examine the grounds for their beliefs and convictions.

Degrees Offered

  1. a) Bachelor of Arts (B.Phil.) in Philosophy
  2. b) Master of Arts (M.A.) in Philosophy
  3. c) Ph.D. in Philosophy.

Proficiency in the English Language is a requirement for both degrees. In addition to this, a written examination shall be administered by the Department of Philosophy in which the candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge of either French or German or Spanish (and a basic knowledge of Greek or Latin).

 Applicants should possess a Masters degree in Philosophy as offered by this Faculty, or the equivalent of this degree. Applicants who are in the process of completing a Masters degree may be admitted to the program provisionally if they have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.3. Applicants should have demonstrate the ability to carry out serious research in Philosophy and should manifest success in their previous study of Philosophy.
