Information has become a highly valued and priced commodity, and both its quality and timely delivery is critical in today’s information age. The department of computer and information sciences aims to graduate students in computer and information sciences who have a strong and balanced foundation in scientific theories, the practices and the uses of Information Technology in creating, storing and the timely distribution of information using computers and other related information technology.
Besides the general university admission requirements, candidates seeking to read for a BSc degree in Computer Science must have pass grades in Mathematics, and other relevant subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Economics, at the GCE O’ Level. At the GCE A’ Level, they must possess good pass grades in at least two science subjects. A pass in Mathematics and Economics will be accepted.
University regulations require that a student earns at least 180 credits to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. To graduate with a BSc in Computer Science, a student must earn at least 168 credits in Computer Science courses of which 120 must be compulsory ones. The remaining credits are obtained from designated courses in Mathematics, Physics, Business and Management Sciences to add to his or her major.
The University now requires that every student should complete and defend an end of course project before they graduate.

The undergraduate program is designed to provide tools, techniques and thinking in such a way as to enable the graduates to find gainful employment in areas where biochemistry knowledge is required and to have the adequate background necessary for the pursuit of studies and research in biochemistry and related fields at the postgraduate level. The department, through its programs, also seeks to satisfy the evolving needs of biochemistry users.
Candidates must have passed at least 2 GCE Advanced Level subjects, one in Biology, Botany, Zoology or Human Biology, and the other in another science subject. The Baccalaureate series C and D are also acceptable.
During the first year, all students in the Department of Biochemistry take common courses, with specialization into specific degree programs beginning in the second year. The number of course credits required for the award of a degree in Biochemistry, shall be a minimum of 180 credits including the general university requirements.
The students can also take a minor in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Chemistry.
The Biochemistry program is conceived to produce graduates who are competent, knowledgeable and skillful and who can survive change and adapt to it. They can be employed in the food industry, the health sector, agriculture and animal production, research, teaching, biotechnology and related industries; they can also go into management, and marketing (as sales representatives of chemical and pharmaceutical industries). The graduate will be endowed with the capacity for self-employment and continued self-education.
At least 5 papers in GCE Ordinary Level including Biology, English, Mathematics and Chemistry in addition to at least 2 GCE Advanced Level passes, with one in Biology, Botany, Zoology or Human Biology.
The minimum number of course credits required for the award of a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology is 180 credits including the general university requirements.
A graduate with a degree in microbiology may engage in teaching; work in the paramedical field (Laboratory technologists); or take up industry-based positions in the petroleum, food processing and beer and wine manufacturing industries, as well as Environmental biotechnology. A graduate may also get into research or further his/her education to postgraduate levels for subsequent teaching and research positions in Universities and other institutions of higher learning.

To provide instruction in mathematics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to carry out scientific research adapted to the changing needs of the society. The undergraduate programme is designed to provide tools for mathematical techniques and thinking in such a way as to enable the graduates to find gainful employment in areas where mathematical knowledge is required and to have the adequate background necessary for the pursuit of studies and research in mathematics and related fields at the postgraduate level. The department, through its programmes, also seeks to satisfy the evolving needs of mathematicians and users of mathematics.
Work as a professional mathematician, computer scientist or statistician; teaching career, management and banking careers. The Department of Mathematics offers instruction in the fields of applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. The undergraduate programme is designed to provide students with tools for mathematical techniques and thinking. Students at the early stages are exposed to basic mathematical processes and principles in both pure and applied mathematics. Consequently, the needs of mathematicians and users of mathematics in various faculties of the university are satisfied. Mathematical Sciences are remarkably permeating virtually every aspect of social, commercial, industrial, recreational and sporting life. In addition to working as a professional mathematician, computer science or statistician, a graduate can equally well develop a management career within one of a wide range of fields. Here, their intellectual training, combined with mathematical and modeling expertise, will provide a substantive asset in the modern world of science and technology. Although mathematics and computer science are basically for students in the faculty of science, students in other faculties can pursue them combined with other subjects of their choice, culminating in an honours degree in mathematics.

All students intending to pursue a degree program in mathematics or statistics should consult the department which provides advice on such important matters as available specialized programs, course sequences, possible combinations of major and minor fields, and recommended undergraduate studies leading to graduate studies.
