Undergraduate Program in Nursing

Our objective in this program is to train nurses who are competent being equipped with knowledge, modern scientific reasoning and its appropriate application as relates to the discipline in their daily performance of  given tasks as a members of a health team. This BNS program is design to develop students' skills in reflective pratice, inter-professional and team work and management to help them to become autonomous practitioners.

 
 
 

Mission
To train highly qualified nurses capable of providing holistic high quality nursing care in diverse clinical situations locally, nationally and internationally.

Specific Objectives
The four – year BNS program aims to equip its graduate nurse so that he or she should be able to:

  • Practice skilled, personalised, dynamic and comprehensive holistic nursing care in any clinical setting.

  • Apply the nursing process in planning nursing care for patients in the hospital and community settings.

  • Utilise scientific principles and reasoning in the problem solving process to nursing services in hospitals, communities and other settings where health care is provided.

  • Employ sound clinical judgement when making decisions on behalf of the patient assigned to his or her care

  • Exhibit leadership and management skills in the coordination and delivery of nursing care and also when assuming the team leader position

  • Exhibit professional ethics and moral judgement in patient care decisions and relationships with other colleagues of the profession.  Exhibit professional ethnics and inter-disciplinary accountability in patient care.

  • Demonstrate leadership and management competencies and also;

  • Co-ordinate delivery of high quality and holistic care.

  • Conduct basic nursing research for the improvement of nursing care in hospitals and community settings.


Admission Requirement.
Admission into the School of Health's BNS program is through a  competitive entrance examination. Details below:

Entrance Examination Requirement
a  i)   Five Ordinary Level passes including the English Language, Mathematics and Biology.
   ii) Advance level passes (at least two including Biology)

or

b)  State Registered Nurse, with passes in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects (English Language, Biology and Mathematics inclusive). Plus at least one A/Level passes preferably in any science subject.

Future, Career and Employment Opportunities
The knowledge and skills obtained by a BNS graduate from CATUC provides him or her the possibilities to be Self employment, employed by the government and non-governmental organizations as well as the possibilities to teach in professional and or research institutions.
Some graduates can equally go in for further studies in Nursing or other relevant field.

Fees
The tuition fee per year is 830,500 F CFA for Cameroonians and 1,630,500 F CFA for foreign students. To read more about fees click here.
