BA in History

History constitutes a major department in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Cameroon. By its nature it is pluralistic, covering a broad field comprising Cameroon History, African History and World Affairs. Furthermore it interrelates freely with all the other disciplines in the faculty such as Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, Geography and Philosophy to widen and deepen its scope and outreach.

Mission
The undergraduate program will cover Cameroon History as an integral part of African History and world affairs ranging from prehistoric times to contemporary period. The program willalso cover other aspects of History which are practical, theoretical and research methodology.

Objectives
The program seeks to promot the rich cultural heritage of Africa and people of African descent;
Among many objectives it seeks:

• To promote an awareness and appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of Africa and people of African descent.
  
• To encourage the scholarly exploration of African themes, problems and situation comparatively, while at the same time recognizing regional and local differences.
  
• To explore the dilemma and promise of societies that have been:
  

a.  Historically shaped by a colonial experience
b.  Economically developed along trajectories of that experience;

c. Socially and culturally plural; and

d.  Politically divided

• To inspire the process of self-examination that can generate the forces necessary for the economic, social, and cultural emancipation of Africa and people of African descent.
  
• To equip students with the cultural and intellectual skills necessary for service and leadership in a complex and rapidly changing world.
  

Education

This shall done through lectures, essays, projects I which historical processes and the relevant historiography problems are studied. we have well experienced staff in place to teach and inspire the students.

Admission Requirement
In addition to the general admission requirements for admission into the Catholic University Cameroon, Bamenda, prospective students into this program must meet ANY ONE of the following conditions:

1. Two A-levels(or equivalent) with at least five credit points.
2. Holder of other equivalent qualification like teachers Grade One etc.

All such qualification make the appliacant eligible for admission into the first year of the program.

Future, Career and Employment

Histroy as a discipline provides a sound basis for number of varied professionals and career posibilities. Graduates in History have good employment opportunities in Public Administration(ENAM); Dipolmacy(IRIC), Teaching (ENS) ; Military(EMIA); Police(ENSP Yaounde); Archivists in Ministry of culture or such, Researchers and Mu seum Managers in the Ministry of Culture; Military Strategist and Economic historians; Politicians and Career Diplomats in international organisations.

Fees
The tuition fee per year is 639,500 F CFA for Cameroonians and 1,039,500 F CFA for foreign students. To read more about fees   click here.
