Agricultural biologists strive to effectively manage farm crops and animals. To do this they study pests like insects, birds and small mammals. They also study plants, farm animals and beneficial insects like bees. Specialties include animal genetics, animal physiology, botany, entomology, horticulture and toxicology. Thus they find ways to improve the production of farm crops and animals.

The Department

The Department of Agricultural Biology offers opportunities and exposures to a plethora of theoretical and applied aspects of Microbiology, Entomology, Pest Management Systematic, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Germplasm Conservation.

The Program also provides extensive hands-on training on biology related laboratory and field work. The students are also provided with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with national level research undertaken in relevant disciplines and conducted at the Department. They also have the unique opportunity of working with modern and high-tech equipments in the realm of agricultural biotechnology.

In addition to its contribution to the core program, the Department offers four modules for the advanced program of the degree. The academic staff of the Department have wide diversity in their advanced training which affords this possibility. Hence, students are able to master the principles of Economic and Applied Entomology, Genetic Improvement of Plants, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology or Plant Pathology and Microbiology, amongst others.

Objectives of the Degree Program
To produce agricultural Technicians with strong background formation in the agro-biological sciences including Biochemistry, Pathology, Plant and Animal Biology, Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Pathology, Microbiology, Entomology, Pest Management systematic, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Germplasm Conservation.

Future, Career and Employments

Agricultural biologists may work as basic or applied research scientists, as consultants to businesses and farmers or as food production managers. Potential careers may include research and development scientists, agribusiness sales representatives, extension agents, farmers, farm managers and range scientists. Others become administrators or managers of research anddevelopment programs in industry. For example, research and development programs may focus on food products, agricultural chemicals or farm machinery. These administrators or managers may not actively conduct research, but manage the people involved in the research program.

1.With a degree in plant Pathology, Entomology, and Pest Management jobs are available in Research, Product development or sales in the agricultural chemistry industry.
2.With a degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Botany, Agricultural chemistry, plant Physiology, Agricultural microbiology, bacteriology, a large number of potential opportunities are available in the field of Agricultural sciences.

About Us

The Catholic Church has not only been at the forefront of educational provision in Cameroon from the German colonial period; she has also been a trailblazer in the provision of quality education. However, for a long time, the Church offered her educational services from nursery through primary to secondary schools only.
